Parallel Paradise
Parallel Paradise was greatly inspired by Shepard Fairey, a contemporary artist who creates street art and propaganda to promote politically driven issues he feels most passionate about. Similar to his ideas, I was inspired by the recent controversy on gun control following the devastating mass shooting in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. I created this work because I wanted to show the obviousness between the affects of guns and what it can take away. By placing positive words where a bullet would typically come out of a gun I feel that the viewer might be a bit confused or concerned. The words put in place of the bullet are meant to serve as a symbol of a paradox that guns do not bring about these positive things.
