An Artist Grown

For my symposium, I was inspired by Impressionist painter Edgar Degas. His Impressionist style of painting focused on small brush strokes, depiction of light, and the expression of movement with ordinary subject matter. His most famous works were mostly of dancers but he also painted portraits that were notable for their psychological complexity and depiction of human isolation. My painting is a self-portrait using my senior picture as a guide. Like Degasí portraits, my portrait symbolizes the isolation of the student . It shows how I have developed my own artistic style through many years of studying art. The style in which Degas painted, inspired me through his ability to make a painting look realistic without exact detail. I use these techniques in my symposium by fading the shadows and lines in the face to have a more subdued quality.
